The employee-ownership movement is accelerating fast. Between 2020 and 2022, the business-ownership sector more than doubled. In 2022 alone, 332 businesses transitioned to employee ownership a record year. By June 2023, the UK counted around 1,418 employee-owned businesses, marking a major cultural shift toward empowering employees. And it hasn’t slowed down.By 2025, industry sources report the UK is now home to around 2,470 employee-owned businesses, collectively employing over 358,000 people.
